Khayali Pulao is a short film by Prajakta Koli, a viral youtuber. The main theme revolves around women’s empowerment and describes how women face discrimination every day. The story rotates around Asha, a class topper who’s not interested in playing games. She always dreams of wearing match clothes.
One day on the announcement regarding the practice for sports, she feels like taking part in handball. She goes for the practice, though she is clueless about how to play the game. Despite several sayings from the coach, she never gave up on the game .Instead , she learns the game with the help of her teacher.
Finally the day comes, and one player from the team couldn’t make up for the match. So Asha substitutes the absentee. For Asha, it was never the sport but was the outfit that mattered. However, her parents, villagers, neighbors get offended because they consider such outfits as something a girl or woman shouldn’t wear.
Wearing such outfits might bring happiness for a girl like Asha, who’s from a village. But for the parents and villagers, it’s something a GIRL should do never do. This is just another stereotype that our society associates with a girl or woman, but there’re several stereotypes like-A girl/woman can not interact with boys, can not stay late nights anywhere and many more.
For girls/women, it gives a sense of happiness to do what they would like to, but for many, it’s a sin. Many women who experience discrimination stay quiet just because of their family reputation, society’s sayings, and sacrifice everything. But it’s prime time that we encourage a girl child/women and treat them as equally powered as men and improve their status in society.
