Exercising and maintaining a healthy diet are the most famous New year’s resolutions that are ignored. We are aware of celebrities and social media influencers following this routine strictly throughout their life. But we consider that important by saying that they have to remain fit to look good on screen to maintain their job. But we do not understand that exercising is not just to make one look good and attractive. It is essential to keep our bodies healthy and strong, giving us a major glow up. If we track our before and after body fat ratios and muscle growth when exercising, then you will notice a remarkable difference and this is called a Glow-up!
Exercising regularly and maintaining that routine makes us look strong and good. It also makes us feel more confident because our body becomes healthier from within. Maintaining a balanced diet strengthens one’s immunity and makes one cheerful.
Knowing all these advantages we still ignore it and settle for lying down on the couch and being lazy. When instead we can race our heart and warm up our muscles to give our day an energetic and cheerful start. We often make the excuse of “no time to exercise” whenever asked about it, but honestly, we are just being lazy!
Think for yourself. There is no such thing as no time. Need is just to start exercising early in the morning or in the evening as per your schedule. It may seem tiring and impossible at first but it gradually turns into a habit and makes its place in your daily routine. Then a time will come when one day of not exercising will make you feel that you have missed out on something important of the day!
Pandemic flamed the trend of exercising and self-love!
Owing to the pandemic and lockdown, we have had a lot of spare time. This spare time can be turned out to be an opportunity to focus on self-growth and health. Many new aspects have been added to our lifestyle that were previously ignored but due to the increased risk of infection, everyone is forced to change their lifestyle. Our lifestyle has become more clean and hygienic due to all the food trucks and restaurants shutting down and people concentrated on homemade healthy food.
Lockdown has provided us time to focus on strengthening our immunity and body. It has also made us focus on the importance of a healthy vegetable-rich balanced diet.
Social media and internet usage has seen a major rise these past two years. It has become the only platform to meet and stay connected in this lockdown situation. It has also remained a constant motivator to switch to a healthy and productive lifestyle. With numerous guided workout videos available on the internet, there is no need to go to the gym too! All you need to do is search for suitable workout exercises.
Many people who struggled with quarantine weight have worked out so hard that they have had an unrecognizable glow up. Time apart from your work from home gave us ample time to think over our routine and make amends to it.
Understanding the procedure of exercising
When we start exercising and planning out our diet according to the trending workout routines followed by influencers, models and celebrities. One thing we need to keep in mind is that exercising shows its effects gradually over months and stretches to a year, provided that routine should be regular. To gain a healthy, strong and in shape posture and body, it takes at least 6 months of continuous workout and training.
You can not aim to lose weight to become healthy in just a month even though putting your body through excessive training and cardio. Instead, it can cause further damage to your bones and back. The outcome also depends on when one starts, like if the person has already less fat ratio then he/she will probably achieve their goal in one month but still to keep it maintained one has to follow the same routine throughout a year and even beyond that.
People often start exercising by keeping a mindset that they will achieve their desired weight in a month. Therefore, they quit early because of fatigue from rigorous training or maybe a pain in the body. We often forget that when we exercise routinely to maintain our energy and strength, one has to modify the diet also.
Now “Modifying diet” does not mean quitting food, not at all. Starving yourself to lose weight and get in a healthy shape is not a great idea. It is a harmful idea that can cause food eating disorders, anaemia, fatigue, dizziness, lack of focus, laziness, low blood sugars, etc. You are exercising to be fit not to welcome more health issues! People often restrict their diet to gain a slim body, but that is not the point of exercising and modifying diet.
Doing the right thing for our body!
Modifying a diet means switching to a balanced diet which means a diet including every type of food necessary to maintain the metabolism and growth of our body. A diet including equal proportions of protein, vitamin, carbohydrates rich food, and limiting the food that adds on unnecessary fat. Limiting dairy products and switching to almond or soy milk(Dairy milk is however essential for children and infants for their growth) to avoid fat.
Drinking detox water made out of Tulsi leaves suspended in water(two lemon slices can also be added but is not necessary) strengthens immunity and boosts our metabolism and spirit.
This is the correct method to modify your diet. We should never blindly follow the trends of dieting, like the werewolf diet, HCG diet, keto diet, zero-sugar diets, etc. Never follow the diets that cut out entire proportions of a meal!
When we eat a balanced diet, our body has enough energy and strength to sustain intense workout sessions and does not leave us tired and drowsy after the exercise.
Drinking enough water after cool down is crucial because while exercising our body loses large proportions of water and minerals via sweat. Drinking water after a workout and throughout the day is important to restore the water and mineral losses occurring via sweat and urination. This is an ideal routine for a healthy body.
How to Exercise?
Exercising in the morning with 20-30 seconds of break time between various sets of core, arms and shoulder and legs workout. Target each muscle group a day. This gives the muscles enough time to recover and firm out. Cardio is a must. It races our hearts and burns excess calories making us feel so fresh and energetic after the exercise.
Always remember to cool down after the completion of exercise by stretching your muscles and performing ‘Pranayama’. It is a focus and breathing oriented workout. It strengthens the lungs, uplifts one’s spirit, calms us down and makes us focused and peaceful.
Make sure to do a quick 10 minutes warm-up before starting a workout. Warming up makes our body ready for the training and exercise that would follow.
One can also do a Dance workout to make exercising fun or can perform ‘Yoga’ to improve body posture and strengthen muscles. Never target to lose all the fat. Fat in certain regions of the body is biologically ideal like in the case of women, fat below the stomach. It is essential as that particular part of a woman’s body holds the uterus. That fat is for the protection of the uterus. So, don’t stress your body to achieve the ‘flat stomach’ because it is possible to attain it, your waist and stomach gain a nice shape but the fat still stays the same. Even celebrities have it is just smart photography and angling of lights that makes it look flat( you can hold your stomach in too!).
Just make sure to do what the body can sustain. Never push it hard enough that it leads to some harm.
I know the start is always tiring and exhausting but just go for it! Don’t overthink it, once one follows these trends for a month, it will become a habit. And then it will be impossible to quit this healthy routine.
Exercising has nothing to do with Body image insecurities.
Exercising is often considered to be performed out of body insecurities or to become slim and achieve a ‘supermodel’ body. But it is not! Throughout this article, it may have seemed like exercising is all about becoming fat to fit and being fit is nothing but being slim. But it is not if it is observed. Exercising is all about being healthy and fit from the inside and being stronger from the outside. Slim people are not healthy as they lack fat and energy. They face many issues that only they know and understand. Even they work out and modify their diet to gain muscles and weight! Exercise is not always just for weight loss! It also helps to gain weight.
Exercising to lose weight and fat is healthy. Excess accumulated fat leads to numerous health issues like drowsiness, fatigue, weakness and pain in bones, digestive disorders, etc. Exercising makes one fit and helps to avoid such disorders. The same applies to skinny people. It makes them more confident in their skin. It’s all about making yourself healthy from the inside.
There are many advantages of exercising and improving your diet and it’s all about being healthy and cheerful. Waking up early and following such a productive routine makes the day worthwhile and helps to gain a healthy lifestyle. So, don’t quit the healthy habits that we have developed during the lockdown. Don’t give up the exercising routine no matter what.
So what are you waiting for! Get up from your couch and quit being lazy and start warming up your body. Start exercising if you haven’t yet. Eat healthily, stay healthy and
Stay safe !
