Wildine Aumoithe, has set a new world record for the Shortest Female Living (non-mobile). She is an 18-year-old woman from North Miami Beach, Florida, USA. She measures just 72 centimetres (28.3 in). Guinness World Records confirmed her record on 13 October 2021. Her main motivation for achieving this record was to encourage other short people in the world.
Her height was measured thrice on the day of the record attempt. Michael Empric was the adjudicator of Guinness World Records. He presented Wildine with her certificate for being the world’s shortest non-mobile woman. Wildine is also proud to be the first Haitian-American to achieve the shortest female world record.
Wildine’s short stature is because of a rare type of Dwarfism. There are about 400 different types of Dwarfism and Wildine suffers from the rarest type. It is called SADDAN (Severe Achondroplasia with Developmental Delay and Dcanthosis Digricans) dysplasia. It is characterized by skeletal, brain and skin abnormalities with severely short height as well as short arms and legs.
Wildine uses a motorised wheelchair to move around since she is unable to walk due to her aforementioned condition. When she was born, the doctors were unsure whether she would survive with her disorder or not. Hence they sent her to a hospice for six months to see if she was going to die but she survived. They handed her over to her mother. Wildine’s mother, Wilda, never gave up on her and they both share a special and strong bond till today.
Wilda is her main caretaker and is always there for her daughter 24/7. At present, Wildine has two brothers and one sister. She did in fact had an older brother who sadly succumbed to sleep apnea, and asthma. Wildine too suffers from sleep apnea. In spite of everything Wildine has to go through every day, she always maintains an optimistic outlook on life. She recalls, that she was never bullied in school for her short stature. But people do stare at her even today when she goes out.
But now she has become used to it. She even started a YouTube channel by the name, Life of Wildine, in February 2020 to spread awareness about Dwarfism and to share her life as a little person, with the world. She dreams to become a pharmacist and goes to college to study pharmacy with a minor in graphic design.
Wildine Aumoithe’s strong determination and extraordinary personality to achieve something great in life despite her disability gives inspiration to so many people out there and this can be reflected in her words which are as below :
“I want to show the world that even though I am short
I am able to live my best life and I can conquer this world even though this world was not built for me.”
